A Short Room Full of Tall People
![]() |
Above the crowd, a large piece of red fabric stretches across the ceiling, completely covering the atrium. Over the course of the night, the fabric slowly lowers along tracks attached to the side of the hotel. Soon every person in the crowd has noticed, and watches as the fabric continues its descent, ever so slowly, compressing the space of the event. Finally the fabric comes to rest, gently wrapping the crowd. People may play within the new space or climb out at its edges. Designed by Mike Ross. A Short Room Full of Tall People was fabricated and installed by the Madagascar Institute for the 2005 Scope NYC art fair.
